Storm damage isn’t always as obvious as a tree falling on your roof. Sometimes, storm damage can happen in a subtle way, making it difficult to know that there is an issue that needs to be addressed until it’s too late. Here is our checklist to help you determine if your roof or home has been damaged after a storm:

Roof: Assess your roof by walking around your house and taking note of any visible damage. Sometimes, you might have better views of your roof from your home’s windows. Make sure to take notes and pictures—this is especially helpful when making an insurance claim. Pay attention to dented, torn, curled, or missing roof shingles.

Gutters, Vents, and Windows: Look for indentations on your home’s gutters. Windows should also be inspected for cracks, shattered glass, and broken screens.

Outdoor Living Spaces: Walk around your home’s exterior and look for fallen tree branches, fence damage, or damage to outdoor furniture and other decor. Don’t forget to check your deck or patio for hail damage.

Attic and Ceilings: Internally, assess these areas for leaks or water spots. While your home’s roof might seem undamaged on the exterior, wind and hail can cause sneaky leaks that may lead to bigger problems later. Make sure to check your attic, ceilings, and light fixtures.
